Most people have to wait until the age of more than 20s before finally having a skin-free acne sprinkles. Free? Not really. Many adults still have facial acne.
"Acne in adulthood is common," said dermatologist Neal Schultz, MD, creator of Beauty Rx Skincare. In fact, acne bia appear when we enter the age of 50's, before menopause. "
If you face a lot of acne in adolescence, chances are you have oily skin that is prone to acne. But even if you do not have an oily face, you may still end up with acne-prone faces in adulthood. Here are some things that could be the cause.
1. Hormonal problems
"Hormonal fluctuations, such as PMS, are the main cause (the appearance of acne)," explained dermatologist Julia Tzu, MD, of Wall Street Dermatology.
The particular cause is a surge of androgen hormones (male hormones) such as testosterone. This male hormone can lead to acne of stone around the chin, neck, and back, explained dermatologist Rebecca Kazin, MD, FAAD, from the Washington Institute of Surgery Dermatologic Laser and Johns Hopkins Department of Dermatology.
2. Stress
Another source of hormonal changes is stress. Whether you are an office worker, a full-time mom, or even both, this life always offers stress at various levels.
"When stressed, the adrenal glands will produce the stress hormone cortisol, and put it out of the body to help the body cope with stress," explains Dr. Schultz.
Women, also have little male hormones in the body and this causes the skin becomes more oily, making it more prone to breakouts.
3. Pollution
"Air pollution will only add severely to your acne," Schultz said. Especially if you live in a big city.
But, this does not mean you have to shut yourself up at home. After you move outside and go home, wash your face with cleansing milk and toner. Look at the results in cotton, maybe you will not like what you see.
4. You may be using the wrong product
If you have oily or combination skin and are prone to acne, you should use skin care products labeled as "oil-free," "non-comedogenic," or "water-based," says Schultz.
False pick a product, for example you choose an oil based product, then it will clog the pores and make the acne problem worse.
5. Cleans faces too often and intensely
"Too frequent washing your face can make acne worse," Kazin said. Twice a day, that's the maximum amount you can wash your face. Moreover, it will cause dry skin and the body will produce oil as a consequence.
6. Certain foods
We've all heard of foods that are suspected to cause acne such as chocolate, fried foods, pizza, caffeine, nuts. But Schultz reminds us that according to research, those foods do not cause acne in most people.
But, there are always exceptions to certain sensitive people. If you are one of them, then you should avoid the foods that trigger the acne.
One substance Schultz thinks can cause acne to everyone is iodine, if you consume it too much. You can find it in shells, such as lobster, shrimp, crab, and some vegetables like seaweed and spinach.
7. Sweet foods
Sweet foods can trigger insulin in the body. Much evidence suggests that insulin may increase male hormones that trigger oil production, Schultz said.
Choose low-glycemic indexed foods that have complex carbohydrates such as whole grains. Grain is slower processed in the body and does not cause insulin to jump dramatically.
